Football fans and supporters of the senior men’s national team, the Super Eagles, have expressed mixed views following the squad’s 2-0 loss to Guinea in a friendly match played in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

The Super Eagles were beaten 2-0 by Guinea’s Syli Stars in their penultimate friendly before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match at Abu Dhabi’s Banis Yas Stadium was held behind closed doors.

The Syli Stars took the lead in the 14th minute and doubled it after 64 minutes.

Some sports fans were dissatisfied with the outcome of the game on X, claiming they did not expect the squad to go to Ivory Coast.

@Celineemykeny replied, “I like the fact that you all don’t want to show yourself now, we don’t want the opposing team to understand our tactics until the main thing starts.”

@Tbksports tweeted, “Like I said before, it’s just a friendly, AFCON 2023 will be different and we are winning it.”

@exquisiteDemola, another X user, commented, “I don zero my expectations on you guys…” Just go to AFCON and mark your attendance.”

@Tobyasky stated, “Guinea is beating us, and we want to win AFCON.” You guys ehn!
“Osimhen can even pay the salary of the entire Guinea squad, Nawa!”

In a similar vein, @mchajji stated, “This is not good. The Super Eagles must find a solution quickly.”

Following the setback, @chinedu_Anyanwu cautioned Nigerians to not expect much from this team in the AFCON. Don’t expect anything positive while Peseiro is in control.

@AGINAS wrote, “Thank God DSTV isn’t showing this AFCON; it’s another source of grief for Nigerians. We’re not prepared for another heartbreak.

The Super Eagles will return to Lagos on Tuesday night, hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The three-time African champions will go to Abidjan on Wednesday for the tournament proper.
