Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, has stated that Gabriel Jesus has had knee surgery.

Arteta made the confession after Arsenal’s penalty shootout victory over Monaco in this year’s Emirates Cup.

Eddie Nketiah was tasked with leading the attack in place of Jesus, who was left off the matchday roster.

With a goal by Nketiah, Arsenal and the Ligue 1 team fought to a 1-1 draw in regulation.

Arteta stated of Jesus after the game, “Unfortunately he had a little procedure this morning.”

They had to operate since he was experiencing knee pain that was causing him trouble. He’ll be out for a couple of months at least.

Unfortunately, this means Jesus won’t be able to watch Manchester City kick off the Premier League season in the Community Shield on Sunday.
