Coup: The Niger junta has turned down the United Nations, the United States, and the Economic Community of West African States

After a coup on July 26, the junta in Niger rejected a diplomatic delegation from other African countries on Tuesday.

According to NAN, the junta refused to negotiate despite pressure from the US and the UN.

As the deadline to reinstate ousted President Mohamed Bazoum passed on August 6, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is holding a conference on Thursday to resolve their standoff with the Niger junta.

ECOWAS has said that military action is a last choice, but it would be discussed.

French magazine Jeune Afrique stated that a combined delegation from the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) attempted to enter Niger on Tuesday, but were turned away at the airport because the junta had blocked the country’s airspace.
