Cute Abiola, the skit’s creator, is under investigation for allegedly negative portrayals of law enforcement

The Nigerian police have spoken out against what they call a “derogatory portrayal” of police uniforms in the comic skits of Abdulgafar Abiola, better known by his stage name Cute Abiola, a former Naval officer and skit producer.

The police have accused the skit creator of posting two videos on his social media accounts on July 20 and 24, 2023, that represent the police in a negative light.

This information was shared on Thursday in a statement issued by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.

In a statement, police stated, “the skits in question show a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform, an action that is direct violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.”

It was stated that Cute Abiola “will be investigated and possibly prosecuted for his deliberate acts as the NPF had already warned skit makers and filmmakers to desist from desecrating its uniform or accoutrements.”

According to Adejobi, Nigerians should “exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could erode public trust in our revered law enforcement institutions.”

EBANTAL reports that in November of last year, Cute Abiola resigned from the Nigerian Navy to pursue a career in comedy.

He previously claimed that his time spent in the Navy gave him the self-control to achieve his goals in life.
