El-Rufai supports strict measures for the electrical sector, including installing meters in every home

Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, has advocated strict steps to improve the country’s electrical infrastructure.

Ministerial nominee El-Rufai has stated that strict penalties will be imposed on anyone who illegally circumvent metering in the country.

This was revealed on Tuesday during the vetting of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet nominees, who had been submitted to the Senate the previous Thursday.

El-Rufai claims that for 60 years, no Nigerian government has been able to fix the country’s unstable energy system.

Measuring is a major problem. Some of the Discos have made great strides in the industry.

“With the help of the CBN and the World Bank, all homes and businesses should have been metered within the last three to four years.

Invoices based on rough calculations are unacceptable. However, Nigeria also needs to crack down severely on electricity thieves.

To paraphrase, “those that get electricity by diverting cables; not paying, we must take a hardline stance against it if this sector is to work.”
