According to the President, Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), would have been executed by firing squad if he had been a Chinese national.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated that Emefiele and his gangs had engaged in heinous embezzlement that would not be tolerated in China.

Onanuga was responding to the report on chargeable offenses from the Special Investigation into CBN and Related Entities.

According to Jim Obazee’s report, Emefiele was accused of embezzling money while serving as the governor of CBN.

According to the report, the former governor of the CBN opened bank accounts without the Board of Directors’ and Investment Committee’s consent.

Emefiele allegedly unlawfully deposited billions of naira into roughly 593 bank accounts in China, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

According to Obazee, Emefiele made unauthorized deposits of £543,482,213 in fixed deposits in UK banks alone.

“If Godwin Emefiele and his gang had committed these egregious misappropriations in China, they would by now be facing the firing squad for high treason,” Onanuga said in a post on X.
