On Monday, during England and Nigeria’s Round of 16 match at the 2023 FIFA World Cup, England attacker Lauren James was criticized for stepping on Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Michelle Alozie.

Several Twitter users have responded to the sending off of Chelsea star James for stepping on Alozie, with some fans expressing displeasure with James’s actions and others urging her to apologize.

The Super Falcons and the Lionesses played to a scoreless draw in the round of 16, forcing the game to be decided by penalty kicks.

England prevailed in a penalty shootout 4-2 despite the fact that James was dismissed in the 87th minute.

As a result of the red card, the 21-year-old will sit out England’s next three games.

However, DAILY POST has compiled some Twitter responses to James’ red card during England’s match against Nigeria.

@Am_Blujay, Lauren James needs to apologize to this Nigerian player on a personal level. From a player of her skill, this is incredibly dirty and unprofessional.

@BalonKing001, I believe Lauren James owes Alozie an open apology for the way she let her feelings get the better of her. The racists may be put to rest with just an apology from her.

@itsleeswhag, Lauren James did not make a blunder; she was very deliberate.

@osasuo, Because of this stupid move, England Lionesses forward Lauren James will be benched for the rest of the #FIFAWWC.

@peterkingdom182, A “typical Chelsea player.”

@MAfc85382476, Extra time has begun, and there was really no reason to do it. Really bad!

The supporters need openness with VAR, said @V0ice_OfReason7, a Twitter account that frequently expresses the voice of reason.

@abdoulyeroo, What a conceited woman she is… What a pointless and silly thing to do! She deserved to get sent off the field.

@MinhajL88844, Large of mind. This is a genetic trait.
