Information and communication technology (ICT) integration into the Nigerian educational system has advanced noticeably, according to the National Universities Commission (NUC).
At the commencement of the first NTI Annual National Conference 2023 in Kaduna on Tuesday, Prof. Chris Maiyaki, the commission’s acting executive secretary, disclosed this.
The focus of the conference is “Re-directing Education Stakeholders’ Focus Towards a Modern Process of Producing Skilled, Committed, and Professional Teachers in Nigeria.”
Prof. Mohammed Yahaya of the University of Ibadan, who was representing the executive director, stated that since 2009, NUC has been setting the standard for the execution of numerous programs meant to incorporate Open and Distance Learning (ODL) approaches in compliance with global best practices.
He said that these initiatives have equipped university staff to leverage technology to raise student involvement.
Furthermore, Maiyaki stated, “Universities’ creation of ODL Centers has increased access to education, making it more inclusive.
“The NUC’s efforts went beyond ICT, as it helped to establish Private Open Universities, which promoted digital learning and ICT-driven teaching and learning.”
