Reece James has been named the new captain of the Chelsea squad by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Since Cesar Azpilicueta decided to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, James has taken his spot.
Azpilicueta is joining Atletico Madrid after moving back to Spain.
James, a graduate of Chelsea’s youth academy, has been given the armband permanently after wearing it during the club’s preseason tour.
I and the club have made this choice. We’re overjoyed that Reece will be leading the team as captain.
His attitude and commitment to Chelsea have been evident throughout preseason, and he has led by example. He donned the captain’s armband with pride during our summer tour and is ready to take on the responsibility of leading our team with his own style and ideas, as Pochettino put it.
