The brutal murder of Alafuro Peterside, 42, in Port Harcourt by a serving member of the Nigeria Police has been condemned as an extra-judicial assassination by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

Given the unenviable human rights record set by the Police in Rivers State with the torture and killing of Chima Ikwunado in December of 2019, Lovenda Elekwachi in April of 2020, and now, Alafuro Peterside who was murdered in cold blood in the presence of his family, the APC said in a statement that the extra-judicial killing of Peterside in Rivers State has become one too many.

In a statement released by Rivers APC Publicity Secretary Darlington Nwauju, the party urged Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Polycarp-Emeka to expeditiously evaluate the mental health of his officers and provide them with mandatory training in civic and human rights.

The APC released a statement condoling with the deceased’s family and demanding that adequate compensation be paid by the authorities to cover their welfare. The statement also urged the CP to ensure that officers with clean human rights records are recommended for promotion to the Police Service Commission.
