For the benefit of the country, the Senate has encouraged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to call off their current strike.

The Senate’s leadership, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was instructed to get in touch with union representatives as soon as possible in order to mediate a peaceful resolution of their demands.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele’s motion, “The need for Labour to reconsider their industrial action in the interest of patriotism and for the rule of law and order,” was put up at the plenary session, and this decision was made in response.

The Senate took this decision when leaders of the TUC and NLC were having talks about the ongoing strike with the federal government.

The unions announced a nationwide indefinite strike in response to the attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo State.
