The third round of a special training course on waste management, environment, and entrepreneurship has begun at Nnamdi Azikiwe University at Awka’s Centre for Environmental Impact Analysis and Laboratory Services.

The 12-month program, which began in Awka, is being conducted in collaboration with Nivi Chim Consult, Chicason Group, Carbon Africa, and other international collaborators.

Mr Amechi Akorah, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nivi Chim Consult, stated at the start of the training that the major goal of the course is to generate the necessary workforce to push environmental preservation through proper waste management.

Akorah, the former Managing Director of Anambra Waste Management Authority, stated that the training would provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills on Waste to Wealth Entrepreneurship, as well as raise awareness about the numerous opportunities for building careers and generating wealth through environmental protection.

“In addition to the training program, the participants will be involved in training different categories of people on waste management initiatives in various parts of the state, South-East, and Nigeria,” he stated.

“We would strengthen collaboration with government at all levels, as well as other stakeholders, to expand the program and achieve the goals of reducing waste in the environment and establishing international best practices.”

“We want to produce environment protection ambassadors and waste managers with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to explore opportunities in the sector.”

Earlier, while declaring the session open, Prof Charles Esimone, Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, stated that the program is in accordance with his administration’s primary focus on human capital development.
