Emefiele: Tinubu Sets Up A Team To Look Into The CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is under investigation by a special investigator appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A recent letter obtained by EBANTAL indicates that Tinubu has appointed Jim Osayande Obazee, the CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), to conduct the investigation.

Following Godwin Emefiele’s arrest by the Department of State Security on June 9, 2023, the CBN has taken this action.

The President has requested that CBN and other important government businesses be looked into by the special investigator.

To further the fight against corruption, this administration is continuing its efforts by designating you as a Special Investigator to look into the Central Bank of Nigeria and related entities, in accordance with the fundamental aim contained in Section 15(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). According to the letter, “this appointment shall be effective immediately, and you are to report directly to my office.”

Despite being granted bail by a Federal High Court in Lagos, DSS re-arrested Emefiele last week.
