Over N4 billion in stolen government monies have been linked to the Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), according to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.

When the commission’s chairman, Mr. Muhyi Rimingado, conducted an inspection visit to storage facilities in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state, he found cars and heavy-duty tractors stored there that were likely purchased with the stolen money.

Rimingado claimed that funds were fraudulently moved from KASCO to the Corporate Affairs Commission-approved Association of Compassionate Friends.

He said, “The Association was meant to promote and take care of the living standard of the children of the less privileged people in society, but unfortunately it has been turned into a machine stealing public funds.”

According to the chairman, the state government was providing the money to KASCO in the form of a grant, but the money was being diverted elsewhere by means of the registered corporate organization.

We have eight individuals in custody who are providing the commission with credible information.

“One of them claimed he had been paid a particular sum to make a false submission at KASCO, but had been saving the money for just such an occasion, and he has now returned the money freely.

He said, “We’ve blocked about N8 million and recovered the sum of N15 million so far.”

Rimingado said the panel had suspicions about the companies’ dealings with certain banks, adding that the heads of those banks might be called in to explain themselves.
