Ondo Assembly is mandated by a court to look into Akeredolu’s health

The State House of Assembly has been directed by an Ondo State High Court in Akure to assemble a team of medical experts to look into Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s current state of health.

According to the Ebantel, the governor moved to Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, in order to receive additional medical care after returning from a medical vacation in Germany.

A coalition of civil society organizations, led by Olufemi Lawson, Ologun Ayodeji, Isijola Kike, and Arogbo Olaniyi, convened in court to request an order compelling the state assembly to look into Akeredolu’s health because they were concerned about his prolonged stay in Ibadan.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the speaker of the state assembly, Olamide Oladiji, and the coalition were named as respondents by counsel Dotun Ajulo.

Justice A. I. Kolawole made a ruling on the issue on Wednesday, directing the lawmakers to form a medical panel that would produce an unbiased assessment on the governor’s health.

The judge stated that the order complied with 1999 Constitution Section 189(4).

After upon, the case was postponed until January 11, 2024.
