Abiodun informs monarchs that Ogun lacks the capacity to administer Amosun’s 250-bed hospital

Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, has stated that the state is not financially sound enough to support a 250-bed hospital established by his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Abiodun made the remarks during the Statutory Meeting of the State Council of Obas, which was held at the Oba’s Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to the Ebantel, the hospital was 80 percent complete when the Amosun administration handed it over.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari dedicated the facility in May 2019.

The Abiodun-led government was unable to proceed with the hospital’s construction and operation due to incapacity.

Bushes have taken over the hospital grounds.

Abiodun went on to say that the state administration has finalized agreements to lease the 250-bed facility to Afrexim Bank and a medical company.

Abiodun pointed out that the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, costs the state N300 million in wages each month.

“We are going to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on the 250-Bed Hospital right here in Abeokuta,” he remarked.

“We recognize that the state will be unable to run that hospital because our tertiary hospital, OOUTH, already costs the state nearly N300 million per month in salaries alone.” We appreciate the reality that the state is unable to administer that facility in the manner that it requires.

“Based on what we’ve seen and done, if that hospital is properly run, medical tourism will be drawn to it.”

“So, the state has adopted a template that we will be the landlords owning that property and others should come and take the concession of that property and run it professionally.”

“Before the end of the year, we will sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Afrexim Bank and the medical group that has agreed to take over that hospital, complete it and operationalise it professionally.”
