APC claims the NNPP government is planning to steal about N8 billion in local council monies

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) government in Kano State, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, is allegedly plotting to embezzle over N8 billion in local government funding, according to accusations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The accusation was made by Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the Kano APC, in a statement released on Tuesday. He claimed that the NNPP government is attempting to usurp the responsibilities of local governments due to the political unpredictability surrounding the outcome of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the contentious state gubernatorial election.

“The APC in Kano has obtained a copy of the Ministry for Local Government’s letter of conveyance of approval, which directs the 44 local councils to release the sums of N101,655,000.38 million and N3,607,370,858.00 million for the construction of the Dan’Agundi and Tal’udu Interchanges, respectively,” the speaker stated.

Abbas pointed out that the letter of permission, purportedly addressed to all council chairmen and forwarded to the state’s auditor general, local government auditors, and all Ministry zonal inspectors, instructed local councils to make contributions to the projects.

Thus, “at this critical period of the NNPP’s unreliability,” he cautioned the commercial banks and local government councils to stop the process of clearing the release of the cash.

In order to make sure that there are no obstacles in the way of its scheme to loot local council monies, the Kano State Government dismissed and appointed new Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) and treasurers last Friday, according to the chairman of the Kano APC.
