Car owners and other transporters have been advised by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Command, to refrain from reckless driving during the Christmas and New Year holidays as it may result in fatalities.

The warning was given by Bridget Asiku, the acting Sector Commandant of Abia State Command, who also described some of the precautions taken to avoid mishaps during the holiday season.

Asiku issued a warning against using old or inadequate tires since they can cause a car to summersault while it is moving.

Deputy Corps Commander Asiku also included driving while intoxicated, overloading, failing to buckle up, using a phone while operating a vehicle, becoming impatient, and operating a vehicle at night without lights as contributing reasons to traffic accidents.

According to the FRSC, staff members have been stationed along key routes in Abia State to guarantee that there are no accidents over the holiday season.

In addition to advising drivers to follow all traffic laws and road signs, the acting sector commander also suggested that they put speed limits on their cars.
