The Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Navy in Badagry, Lagos, seized 50 bags of cannabis sativa valued at N70 million from the Gbethrome community.

According to FOB Base Operations Officer Lt. Commander Kelly Umoru, Navy staff found the items in an incomplete structure close to the shore at around 6:30 in the morning.

Following up on a tip on possible smugglers in the region, the navy moved quickly.

As you may remember, on November 9, 2023, Rear Admiral Mustapha Hussain, the Flag Officer Commanding of Western Navy Command Operations, announced the start of an operation known as “Water Guard” in accordance with an order from the Chief of Naval Staff.

As he stated,

“On Sunday, Nov. 19, FOB Badagry stormed Gbethrome based on credible human intelligence and found 50 sacks of suspected cannabis sativa stored in an abandoned building near the beach.”

About 200 parcels are contained in each of the sacks. The items have a market worth of N70 million.
